KOCHI
The LDF-called hartal on Wednesday, July 12 may not have any impact on the civil works of Kochi Metro. While the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to start test piling works for the third reach at Kacherippady on Wednesday, major trade unions, CITU and INTUC, are non-committal at the time of going to the press.
The CITU will hold a late night meeting to decide on the issue. Soma Constructions, contractor for the third reach, is executing the work between Jawaharlal Nehru international Stadium and Ernakulam south. “The test piling will begin at 10am. We hope the strike will not affect the work of Kochi Metro,” said DMRC’s spokesperson. On Tuesday morning, DMRC’s principal adviser E Sreedharan inspected the stretch between Ernakulam south and Pettah.
