This summer it is not just the scorching sun which will keep away the high flyers from making travel plans for India. Election season too is adding to the woes of hotels especially the ones in metro cities adding to the occupancy woes. Hotels thriving on business travellers are seeing a drop in demand for the next couple of months.
Most corporates are withholding key decisions and putting off any big deals till a clearer picture of India’s future emerges. While travellers may be making a beeline to get a hotel booking in cities like Varanasi or Ahmedabad which have witnessed high political activity for the industry it is nothing more than a flash in the pan. Hotel properties in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and other key metros are expected to end with just 40-50% occupancy this summer.
