Eco-village in Konark proposed

BHUBANESWAR

Planners have suggested that Konark – known for Sun Temple, the world famous monument, and serene beaches – should be developed to accommodate tourists and city dwellers, who want to spend time away from madding crowd.

The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), prepared for development of Puri and Konark — tourist destinations – has suggested development of an ‘eco- village’ in Konark to strengthen natural conservation through participatory processes that empower local people to take responsibility for their socio-economic well-being.

“Konark houses the surreal Sun temple and is located at a distance of 35 km from Puri and 71 km from Bhubaneswar. It is ideally a one- day drive from these two cities.

This has led to Konark being shadowed by these two cities. The tourists usually go there by the day and leave after visiting the temple,” the CDP observes.
