The forest department has submitted a detailed project report (DPR) regarding setting up a new zoo at Kukrail to the government.
Acting on the direction of the chief minister who is keen to promote eco-tourism in Uttar Pradesh, the forest department has planned a major makeover for Kukrail at the cost of Rs 380 crore to the exchequer between 2013-14 and 2016-17.
The new zoo would be constructed on a 80 hectare area at Kukrail under Kukrail biodiversity centre project. The DPR prepared by the state forest department also provides for renovation of existing infrastructure at Kukrail. The project includes building a museum and a nature interpretation centre at the site. The picnic spot would be given improved public amenities.
