Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has flayed the state tourism department’s plan to build a museum showcasing Mughal heritage in the Taj Mahal’s vicinity.
ASI, the government agency responsible for preserving the 17th-century mausoleum, felt the proposed museum could be built near any other Mughal-era monument present in the city. Building a museum near the Taj, a senior ASI official said, would merely increase tourist footfall around the area.
“The area near Taj is already overcrowded. What is the need to build every thing near it? The government should see all the pros and cons before taking any such decision,” he said.
