Delhi police cracks down on buses without GPS

DELHI
The transport department is finally cracking down on chartered buses for not installing GPS devices. Over 1,000 registered chartered buses, including school buses, have received challans for their failure to put in GPS devices.

Not installing GPS will result in permit cancellations, said P K Goel, transport commissioner. There are around 10,000 chartered buses in the city at present.

In March this year, the department had made it mandatory for chartered buses to install GPS devices. For this, the bus owners were given time till the end of September.

Gramin (Rural) Sewa vehicles were also ordered to install GPS devices. Since their launch in 2010, Gramin Sewa vehicles have had GPS as a permit condition. The department has ordered them to install the devices by November 1.
