Days after a TOI report showing how harassment of tourists in Agra is driving them away from the city of the Taj, Uttar Pradesh tourism police announced plans to launch a 24×7 helpline number for visitors.
A trial run is underway at the tourism police office at Fatehabad Road here. Officials said the helpline (number 0562-2230230) will assist tourists in all possible ways, be it in providing assistance in hiring guides or photographers, or in any emergency situation like calling an ambulance.
The call centre, said officials, will be jointly manned by staff from tourism police and the UP tourism department. There is also a plan to hire some people from outside who can speak fluent English and other languages.
An official informed, “The plan to start the service has been dragging on for some time now. However, things are now moving in the right direction and we are hoping that it would be launched soon.”
