While the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Ltd, is all set to give the 17th century Tiracol fort on lease and develop it as a high-end heritage tourism destination – heritage activists are a worried lot.
Though most of them are not opposed to leasing out the fort, their concern is that the fort will lose its historic value if a successful bidder is given a free hand in running it.
The GTDC, in its 131{+s}{+t} board meeting in July 2013, resolved to give the 53,000 sq m property at Tiracol, located 42 km north of Panaji on lease for 33 years divided into three terms of 11 years each.
