In a comprehensive effort to push tourism in the region, the union ministry of tourism has sanctioned Rs 44.32 crore for the development of ecotourism in Bhandara-Gondia-Nagpur area as a ‘mega circuit’. The sanction, which came on February 28, 2014, will provide a boost to tourism and give a fillip to villages on the periphery of the thick forest cover in these areas.
“There are plans to set up an ecotourism mega project in areas around Gondia, Bhandara and Nagpur. The process of land acquisition is on,” said Hanumant Hede, senior regional manager MTDC, Nagpur.
A region is developed as a mega tourist circuit to create infrastructure that can cater to future tourist inflows and give visitors a satisfying and memorable experience. Financial assistance from the centre is given for development of circuits to world standards, MTDC sources say.
