The traffic police is planning a slew of security measures including installing CCTVcameras in private buses, in a special drive to rein in errant private bus employees after a student was molested in a bus in Kalamassery earlier this week.
Traffic police will soon submit the CCTV proposal to the regional transport authority. “The proposal will be submitted to the RTA board after further discussions. It would be easy to identify and nab offenders if cameras are installed,” said assistant commissioner (traffic) K S Baby Vinod.
Meanwhile, private bus operators said the idea is not a practical one. “It would add to our financial burden. Since buses are parked at petrol pumps and roadsides at night, there are chances that these cameras would be stolen,” said president of Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation B M Sathyan.
