While Carnival around the world will be celebrated from March 1 to March 4 next year, some travel websites and tour operators are marketing and selling ‘Goa Carnival packages’ on the internet with the dates fixed at February 9 to February 12, 2014. Carnival was celebrated this year, 2013, between February 9 and February 12.
Unsuspecting customers, meanwhile, are being solicited for these packages which include breakfast, hotel stay and sightseeing around Goa with the evenings reserved for witnessing the ‘carnival parades’ in Goa’s towns.
Sonali Chakraborty of Kolkata almost booked flight tickets for her parents with the wrong dates. “It was only after I checked with a Goan friend that I got to know that Carnival is from March 1 to March 4,” she told STOI.
