KASARAGOD: The district administration will host a three-day international kite festival at the Bekal beach park at Pallikkare from May 5 to improve the tourism prospects of the region.
The festival, to held in association with the Bekal Resorts and Development Corporation (BRDC) and Lions Club, is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, reports The Hindu.
The success of a kite festival held at Bekal last year inspired the move, BRDC Managing Director T.K. Manzoor told a press conference here on Thursday.
The festival is expected to fly the globe’s largest Kathakali kite, a 40-foot- diameter circle kite, a tiger kite that was hugely popular in a recently held Chinese kite festival, and a kite that can emit light during night.
The organisers have decided to host a workshop on kite crafting and handling at Greenwoods Auditorium at nearby Palakkunnu town.
At the festival, Kerala’s traditional art and dance forms such as Thiruvathirakali, Kathakali, Shinkarimelam, Oppana, Margamkali, Duffmuttu, Kalari will be staged.
The programme would see jeep ride along the beach by car racer Moosa Sherief, he said.
