‘The Baga beach tourism destination development project’ at Baga, Calangute, which was expected to be inaugurated last month, is still not complete and is likely to be ready later this year.
In March, tourism director Ameya Abhyankar had told TOI that the project, launched on April 25, 2013, would be complete in a year.
“The work is nearing completion, and will be ready by April-end, and inaugurated either April-end or beginning of May,” he had said.
During the launch in 2013, tourism minister Dilip Parulekar had said the project, undertaken at a cost of 9 crore, would have a 980m-long seaside pathway from Baga to Calangute, an approach road from Baga to the Baga-Arpora bridge, paved parking areas, a jogging track, a garden and seating areas in the 50,000 sq m GTDC property at Baga. Once developed the 50,000 sq m area was also planned to be used for exhibitions and other gatherings.
