Artists turn activists as festivals charm Guwahati


GUWAHATI
‘Happening’ is not an epithet usually applied to the city, but Guwahati is increasingly providing opportunities for aspiring artists to celebrate its life and essence. Be it cleaning a polluted river, creating 3D visuals or working with rural artisans to popularize local crafts, the youth brigade has started taking an interest in what the city has to offer.

Festivals such as ‘Metropolis’, ‘Dancing Rain’, ‘Kala Samaniya’ and ‘Great Guwahati Festival’, where celebration coexists with a desire to create awareness about long-forgotten cultural motifs, local ecology and alternative art, are pulling crowds. These are actively supported by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation.
