Andhra attracts most domestic tourists

When faced with inflation, corruption and unemployment, Indians turn to god. Latest data shows that Andhra Pradesh attracted the largest number of domestic tourists in the country in 2012 of which a significant number were drawn to the Tirumala Venkateswara temple. An estimated 206 million Indians travelled to Andhra last year, making it the most popular destination in the country unseating Uttar Pradesh. 

Domestic tourism defied the economic slowdown to grow by almost 20% in 2012 compared to 2011 with 1036 million Indians travelling within the country. This is in sharp contrast to the tepid 6.3% increase in foreign tourist arrivals during the same period.
