Agri, tourism can be alternative to mining


With mining activities in the state being halted by a Supreme Court ban, the state has been looking for alternative sectors for revenue generation.

Participants at a regional seminar on ‘Media & Human Development: Need for a Reality Check?’ organized by International Centre-Goa in association with GUJ, MICCI, and FES-India, weighed their thoughts on two sectors that can provide a suitable alterative. In a session titled ‘Can tourism/agriculture replace mining as a major revenue generator’?

Roland Martins, coordinator of civic action group GOACAN, was of the opinion that “if the state is looking at tourism as an alternative to mining, tourism cannot be a business run only by big players”.
