In the wake of the alleged controversy with regard to the issuing of licences to the bungalows of the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Private Ltd in Munnar to start homestays, the Idukki district administration is learnt to have initiated steps with regard to unilateral decision of the secretaries of Munnar and Devikulam panchayats.
“The Devikulam RDO has submitted a report in this regard. We are processing the report and a decision will be taken on Wednesday or Thursday,” Idukki District Collector Ajit Patil told ‘Express’. The report was called for after reports came out that the secretaries had issued the licence defying High Court’s directive and despite government’s objection. Patil said that the back files in the case were also being looked into and the exact position on the stand taken by the secretaries are also being perused.
It is learnt that the Devikulam RDO in his report had said that the panchayat secretaries had issued the licences on the basis of the Ombudsman’s order. The district administration will examine if the Ombudsman’s order can be implemented in the wake of High Court order and other pending cases.
