A year on, Agra tourism projects yet to start

AGRA

Construction work for as many as three mega tourism projects listed for over a year by the department are yet to make a kick start. Barring the Tajganj development project of Rs 185 crore, others such as a toy train in Paliwal park, a butterfly park in Taj Nature park or an international tourist arcade near the Taj Mahal are yet to get clearance from concerned authorities and requisite funds.

According to sources, funds of Rs 15 crore for the toy train project and Rs 5 crore for the butterfly park were rejected by the Central government. The butterfly park project also needs clearance from the Central Zoo authority (CZA). Forest department officials, who were assigned the project, are hopeful that approval will be granted soon, reports Times of India.

K K Singh, divisional forest officer, said, “We are working on the plantation drive ordered by the Supreme Court. We will try and seek clearance for the butterfly park from CZA soon. However, since keeping butterflies in captivity would be difficult we have decided to earmark an area and create a natural habitat for the insects.”

According to sources, a second proposal with a revised approval plan for a toy train will be sent to the central government. “If that does not work out too, the Agra Development Authority (ADA) will seek funds from the state government,” said an official from the department.
