In a crackdown against bus operators, both government and private who are openly flouting the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Act, the transport department has booked as many as 945 tourist vehicles for various violations.
RV D’Souza, joint commissioner of transport (Bangalore Urban and Rural), said that RTOs have booked the tourist vehicles, particularly buses run by government and private operators for violating permit conditions, having no emergency exits, fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
“We have seized 119 vehicles for gross violations of the motor vehicles Act and 36 of them are buses detained for compounding offences. Cases have been booked against these offenders,” he said.
