With Goa swiftly turning into a wedding destination, the tourism department has plans on developing two wedding venues one in each district.
The department has already zeroed in on one of its beachside properties in Vagator for the construction of a wedding venue that would cater to the special needs of those wanting to tie the knot in Goa. However, the department does not want to invest directly, and is looking for private investments wherever possible.
A source said it has signed a long-term lease with Apra Motels, which has interests in the hospitality industry, to develop the Vagator venue. The department will receive 40 lakh annually as rent, with an assured increase of 7% in subsequent years.
